It’s quite simple why people have invented adware and spyware software. Ever since there has been privacy, malicious people have been trying to invade it.

Clever marketing companies are always looking for different means to reach their target market, thus the creation of adware. Cast you mind back to the olden days where there were programs that promised to make you money just by surfing the net.

Well, I can tell you firsthand that I myself never made a dime. You were to be paid through advertising. Here’s how it works: Small adverts rapidly rotate at the bottom of your screen. You would then click on an ad and the company who’s ad it was would then pay the company who’s program you installed and in turn they would pay your money per click.

Wow, what a mouthful!

Let me break it down for you. Lets say you were using ABC Marketing’s “Use this while surfing the internet to make money” software program. ABC Marketing then displays loads of rotating adverts across the bottom of you screen.

You then click on XYZ Loans’ advert. XYZ Loans then pays ABC Marketing for the click. Therefore, every click on an advert, ABC Marketing will then collect revenue for it.

The whole idea behind this model is that you’ll visit the sites displayed on the adverts. You might possibly buy something; become a regular member or something else.

It doesn’t matter what you do after clicking the ad, by going to the sites you are just another guy (or girl) contributing to someone else’s revenue stream. Believe it or not, but this method is where the whole PPC (Pay Per Click) way of advertising began.

Anyway, adware is based on this model. Companies are being paid to get these software programs onto computers to display adverts on your PC.

Only a small amount of people actually clicks the ads to visit the site. Regardless of this, the company displaying the adverts will make money through cost per million (CPM) or PPC.

All CPM means is that for every million adverts displayed, the company makes a certain amount of money. Its more likely that the companies are paid CPM because of the fact that more and more people learn about adware and do not click the banners, but PPC is more effective. Through the use of CPM the companies make money just by displaying the adverts.
